In a city where too many young people face the harsh realities of unemployment and limited opportunity, the Ek’se Mamela Career Expo: Your Future Starts Now, came as a breath of fresh air offering direction, inspiration, and hope.

Hosted by the Office of Honourable Noluthando Makasi, MP, in partnership with the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure (DPWI) and other stakeholders, the event transformed the Athlone Civic Centre in Cape Town, into a vibrant hub of opportunity. It brought together government departments, educational institutions, and organisations committed to helping young people access training, bursaries, and employment pathways.
Delivering the keynote address, Deputy Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure, Sihle Zikalala, said the event represents a government that listens, acts, and invests in youth potential. “We must build our own engineers, artisans, and professionals right here at home,” he said. “Education remains the great engine of personal development, it is through learning that we unlock the future.” He added.

Honourable Noluthando Makasi, MP, said the expo was born from seeing young people arrive daily at her Parliamentary Constituency Office seeking help and guidance. “This is more than a career expo it’s a bridge to opportunity. We have heard our young people, and today we are responding with action” she said.
The exhibitions at the expo included the DPWI, National Youth Development Agency (NYDA), College of Cape Town, Northlink College, Department of Employment and Labour, South African Police Service (SAPS), and the Islamic Relief Organisation, who all played a key role in connecting youth with information and training.

With powerful messages of hope and empowerment echoing through the hall, the Ek’se Mamela Career Expo reminded every young person in attendance that their dreams are valid and their future truly starts now.
