The Department of Public Works and Infrastructure (DPWI), through its Pretoria Regional Office, has once again demonstrated its commitment to service delivery and state capacity by successfully completing tenants’ installations at the Brigitte Mabandla Justice College. The intervention followed a request from the Department of Justice and Correctional Services (DOJ&CS) to ensure the college was ready to serve as the official home of the Judicial Commission of Enquiry into Allegations of Corruption in the Criminal Justice System, to be led by retired Deputy Chief Justice Madlanga.

The college required urgent installations and adjustments to meet the commission’s operational needs. Without these interventions, the readiness of the venue would have been delayed. In response, DPWI’s Pretoria Regional Office mobilised its in-house Workshop team, carried out the required works within a short turnaround time. This team rose to the challenge, completing essential work in painting, electrical connections, plumbing, and internal fittings. Despite limited staff and capacity constraints, their efforts showcased the strength of DPWI’s own technical expertise, proving that quality outcomes can be achieved without relying solely on external contractors.

“The successful completion of this project highlights the commitment of our Workshop staff to deliver quality outcomes, even under challenging circumstances,” said Regional Manager Thembi Hlatshwayo. “The Workshop team members worked tirelessly. Their passion and commitment is remarkable.” Deputy Director General Luyanda Kafile, echoed this sentiment: “The Regional Manager and her team went above and beyond. I have seen them in action, even on weekends. Their smiles while working say it all, we are truly fortunate to have such a capable and committed team.”

The Director-General, Sifiso Mdakane, expressed pride in the women artisans who formed part of the project. “They are highly skilled, with N6 qualifications, and they are women. Considering it’s Women’s Month, their contribution has been truly inspiring,” he said. What makes this achievement even more significant is that it was carried out entirely in-house, without the cost of external contractors.

“From our side, as Public Works, we delivered this facility free of charge. South Africans will benefit from a state-owned facility that is clean, modern, and properly fitted. I believe the Minister will also be proud of what has been achieved,” added the Director-General.

Currently, the Justice College is about 85–90% ready, with only final touch-ups and clean-up remaining before the commission commences. DPWI also acknowledged the City of Tshwane for assisting with pavement and traffic management around the facility. The completion of tenants’ installations at the Brigitte Mabandla Justice College is more than just a facilities project – it is a celebration of teamwork, technical skill, and state capability. It highlights the unseen dedication of public servants who work tirelessly to ensure that South Africa’s institutions are ready to serve the nation.
