The Director-General (DG) of the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure, Sifiso Mdakane, undertook an oversight visit to the Grobler’s bridge and Stockpoort border posts on Wednesday, 13 August 2025. The visit was aimed at assessing infrastructure and operational readiness at these critical points of entry.

The engagement forms part of the Department’s ongoing commitment to providing Border Management Authority (BMA) with the resources and support required to effectively fulfil its mandate. The BMA plays a central role in securing South Africa’s borders, facilitating lawful trade, and enabling safe cross-border movement.

During his tour of both sites, DG Mdakane was accompanied by Deputy Director-General for Construction Projects Management (CPM), Batho Mokgothu, Public Works and Infrastructure Limpopo Regional Manager, Phethani Muvhali, and Director of Projects, Jabulile Mabaso, along with senior officials from the Department and representatives of the BMA. Together, they inspected the facilities, reviewed operational processes, and engaged with staff to better understand daily challenges and successes.

DG expressed his satisfaction with the current state of infrastructure at both the Groblersbrug and Stockpoort border posts. He commended the commitment of the operational teams and acknowledged the progress made in maintaining facilities to support efficient service delivery. However, he identified key areas that require further improvement. These include upgrading certain facilities, enhancing technology systems, and improving logistical arrangements to better handle peak cross-border activities. He stressed that addressing these needs will contribute to more secure and effective border management.
