The day started with DG Mdakane providing a progress on the ongoing revamping of the pound, which suffered severe damage during the floods that occurred in the year 2022.

Director General Mdakane, Lieutenant General Mkhwanazi, supported by a team from the Department, as well as officials from and SAPS KZN, further conducted a walk-about around the pound before engaging on the Mandela Day activities. The team rolled up their sleeves to give the pound a facelift by painting walls and cleaning the yard.

This pound in Isipingo is used by SAPS to store stolen cars and cars involved in criminal activities. The department plays a major role, not only at the SAPS pound, but also in providing accommodation to be used by SAPS to keep criminals in holding cells in the police station, and correctional facilities.

Director General Mdakane promised that the Isipingo Vehicle Pound, which houses thousands of vehicles, will be back to full and improved operations by the end of December 2025, with critical functions expected to be restored by end of October 2025.
