“The goal is clear. We must accelerate delivery, stimulate growth and turn South Africa into a construction site,” said Minister Macpherson. Minister Macpherson also announced that on Tuesday 27 May, there will be a launch of the 2nd edition of the construction book, which is a live inventory of construction- ready projects that are already funded and are scheduled to go to the market in the coming 12 months. This is a showcase of the work being done in various parts of rehabilitating the country’s infrastructure. The Minister also mentioned that this year’s symposium will also share the progress of the “Adopt a Municipality” programme, that is aimed at addressing capacity constrains at local government.

The symposium set to kick-off on Monday, 26 May 2025, will address the country’s pressing infrastructure needs while exploring innovative solutions to challenges facing the sector. During the media briefing, Minister Macpherson re-emphasised government’s commitment to improving infrastructure as a cornerstone for economic growth and upliftment.

Deputy Minister Sihle Zikalala said over the years, SIDSSA has evolved to be a platform to account and give details on the next phase of infrastructure projects to be implemented. “Infrastructure development and industralisation are the two keys that will address the challenges of the country’s economy.” he said. The Deputy Minister re-affirmed that the department aims to create an environment conducive to investment, urging developers to come forward with their insights and proposals.

The SIDSSA 2025 will include panel discussions with Ministers of Public Works and Infrastructure across the continent, culminating to the keynote address to be given by President Cyril Ramaphosa on Tuesday 27 May 2025.
