Public Works and Infrastructure Minister Dean Macpherson conducted an oversight visit today to the construction site of the new Johannesburg Deeds Office, located in Marshalltown. The project marks a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to revitalise the Johannesburg Central Business District.

Valued at R769 million and currently 78% complete, the development is the first new high-rise building to be constructed in the Johannesburg city centre in over two decades. The project is expected to stimulate economic activity, attract investment, and contribute meaningfully to the regeneration of the inner city.
Speaking during the visit, Minister Macpherson said the project is a strong example of the Department’s internal capability and technical expertise. He emphasised the critical role that infrastructure development plays in restoring confidence in South Africa’s urban centres and driving sustainable growth.
“As we work to turn South Africa into a construction site, the Johannesburg Deeds Office project shows how infrastructure investment can help breathe new life into our urban centres while ensuring that government facilities are modern, efficient and capable of serving the public,” said Macpherson.

He further noted that the project reflects the standard of excellence the Department aims to achieve, adding that similar initiatives will be replicated in communities across the country to support broader urban renewal and economic development objectives.
